The Society pursues its objectives through a number of activities that are directed by the Council. The Council is elected by the full membership and has representation from major Committees and Associations.

Standing Committees of Council

Executive

Directs the affairs of the Society as entrusted by Council.

Scientific Program Committee

Organises the Society's scientific meetings.

Research Committee

Responsible for the initiation, promotion, facilitation of research into health and disease related to the broad field of gastroenterology, hepatology and related disorders.

Digestive Health Foundation

Advises the Society on matters pertaining to promoting better health and understanding of gastrointestinal and liver disease in the community and among the general medical profession.

Professional Liaison Committee

Responsible for co-ordinating the Society's comments and responses on clinical practice in the specialty.

Finance Committee

Monitors the financial procedures.

Ad Hoc Committees/Working Parties/Representatives

Council will seek the appropriate expertise from within the membership as required.

Responsible for the organisation of Australian Gastroenterology Week (AGW) and any other society scientific meeting.

Functions

  • Develop, assess, allocate and generally manage the research fellowships, scholarships and other forms of financial support related to research, such as travel awards, provided by the Society.
  • Establish a process for identification of key health outcomes in digestive sciences that are not being adequately dealt with and that would be improved by initiation of additional research.

Digestive Health Foundation (DHF)

The Digestive Health Foundation (DHF) is the educational and professional development arm of the Society.

Notice Of Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the Society will be held on Friday 24 October 2008 in Great Hall 2 of the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre Brisbane, Queensland, commencing at 1730.

Items for discussion at the AGM must be submitted in writing.

Agenda items are required by the close of business (17:00) on Friday 29 August 2008
